Some great progress in the LPS Qubit Foundry program: https://web.archive.org/web/20230615180612/https://www.qubitcollaboratory.org/qubits-for-computing-foundry-qcf-announcement/ (saved copy)
Lincoln Labs, Intel, and HRL qubit chips will enable exploration of new qubit modalities in academic research groups. We are still early days with solid-state qubit technologies and the more we can learn about these devices, the better. LL has been providing superconducting qubits to spec to a small number of groups for the last 18 months, and we are expanding availability. Intel and HRL will start to provide early quantum dot chips to a small number of groups to see how they work. It took almost 20 years from the first proposals for dot qubits to realization of a (pretty good) 2-qubit gate. There is a lot of science still to do and many different qubit and gate proposals to investigate.
This announcement follows the ARO/LPS RFI from a couple years ago which requested input from the research community assessing the need and potential for such a program.
